What Is “Where’s My Reply?”

“Where’s My Reply?” is a service offered by the HMRC that will tell you when you can expect to get a reply from certain departments in HM Revenue & Customs about a query or request you may have made.

What Areas Does It Cover?

You can use the “Where’s My Reply” system for queries realting to:

  • Income Tax
  • Tax Credits
  • Self Assessments

If you have a query relating to another area, you should contact HMRC directly. You can find them by ringing 0843 557 4595.

If you wish to act as an agent on behalf of a client, want to register for online service or to make changes to your own details, you can also use this service too.

Using “Where’s My Reply?” For Income Tax Related Queries

You can benefit from using “Where’s My Reply?” in relation to income tax questions if you are an employee or if you pay tax on a company pension through Pay As You Earn (PAYE). The service can be used to find out how long it is expected for HMRC to do things such as:

  • Pay out your income tax refund
  • Get back to you about your Income Tax related query
  • Get you a copy of specific information, such as your tax code, pay or other tax details

If you have a query about your Tax Credits you can use the “Where’s My Reply?” system to get an expected reply date. You can use this is you are currently claiming tax credits or are waiting to hear back about tax credits and the service can tell you how long it will be before you can expect to hear back about:

  • Being sent the claim pack you requested
  • Dealing with your new claim
  • Dealing with a change that you have informed HMRC about
  • Sending you the award notice you asked for
  • Backdating your claim
  • Returning the valuable documents you may have sent, which could include birth certificates or passports
