0151 443 4476If you are eighteen or over and own or rent a home you will usually have to pay Council Tax. Council Tax is a local taxation system that is used in the UK (England, Scotland and Wales). A property is assigned a council tax ‘band’ from A-H depending on its value. If you need to speak to someone about council tax then you can call the council tax contact number.

Council Tax Payments

When you call the Council Tax payments phone number you will be able to issue payment for your council tax over the phone simply by speaking to an operator, giving the details of your tax (what band your property is in etc) and then giving your card details so that payment can be taken. If you are late paying your council tax you might be charged a late fee which will be explained to you over the phone. Calling this line also gives you the opportunity to set up a direct debit so that you don’t need to call the number to make your payments in the future. If you want to set up a direct debit please inform the operator. They will then take your bank details (sort code and acc number) so that a direct debit can be set up in your name. That way, you won’t have to remember to make the payments on time every month.

Council Tax Helpline

Depending on the type of property you live in and its area you will be given a Council Tax band which will determine how much council tax you are required to pay. This contact number acts as an advice line if you are a little confused about the band system – you can ask the adviser what band you fall into by giving your address and they will then inform you of how much you are required to pay for the property that you are living at. Please use the number above to also ask any questions that you might have about the council tax band system.

Council Tax Discounts

Call the Council Tax number if you think you might be eligible for council tax discount. You will be required to explain your situation over the phone such as why you think you are eligible (you might have a mental disability or are acting as a live-in carer for someone else which would usually mean you are exempt from paying). Every individual case is different and the adviser is aware that this can be a sensitive subject and so will deal with any questions you have about ultimate care and professionalism. If you have been paying council tax on its full amount and were unaware that you were in fact entitled to a discount, you could be entitled to some compensation. You can also discuss this over the phone so please explain your situation.

Council Tax Complaints

When you call the council tax complaints number you will be asked your reason for calling and then requested to explain your complaint in detail. The operator will either attempt to deal with your complaint there and then, giving you the answers that you need or they will put it through to a different department. In this case, you may have to expect a callback, details of which will be given to you by the operator. You can expect the complaint to be ongoing if it needs to be escalated to a different department in order to be dealt with efficiently. If you have any complaints about your council tax, please get in touch on the number above
